CIF is asking that we participate in a multi-state survey. It deals with what is right and what is wrong in today’s officiating environment. The CIF wants to get your feedback and also compare it to other states. It takes about 10 minutes to complete. This is a good way to make your voices heard about such things as pay, coach behavior, fan behavior, issues with game sites, etc.
The playoff list that was submitted to CIF is posted on the website here Playoff Assignments
This list was submitted to CIF for semi-final and finals consideration. Priority for each round will be given to those on the final/semi-final list. The rest of the games will be assigned using the ratings as submitted by the rating chairman
The assignor has been directed to fill the remaining spots at his discretion. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Frank Werner.

This link https://www.dropbox.com/s/l7jxmcs25p85fl7/OCFOA%20Attendance%282019-10-02%29.pdf?dl=0 will open a PDF file sorted by last name of all the attendance I’ve recorded so far. You can download it if you like, just click on the box with the 3 dots in the upper right corner and select download.
If you don’t see all the meetings you attended, search for your email address or last name. Some of you input your first name in the last name film and vice versa, I saw several misspellings. If you still feel there is a discrepancy, look in your email inbox for an email confirmation of the meeting that you are not seeing. Contact me by email if you believe the attendance record is incorrect.
If you need to attend more meetings or need to pass one or more of the required tests, or you simply would like more instruction regarding the rules, then come to 1 or both of the makeup meetings. The makeup meetings are this month on Tuesday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 22nd at Old World in Huntington Beach PLEASE NOTE: The meeting on the 8th will not be in the main hall. Instead, it will be in the Jager room. Just ask for directions from the staff when you get there. On Oct 22nd we will meet in the main hall. Old World has great food and drink, feel free to order a meal and/or a beverage (soft or adult). They allow us to use the facility for no charge, so let’s support them with our business.
I will be reviewing the Summer Study guide at the makeup meeting #1 on Tuesday, October 8th and the other 4 rules tests at the second makeup meeting on Tuesday, October 22nd. If you come to the Oct 8th meeting and need to complete or pass the Summer Study guide, I will open the test for you. If you come on the 22nd and need one or more of the tests, I will open the test up for you to complete and hopefully pass. Obviously, I won’t be able to go over the entire test in time we have available so go through the tests and pick out the questions you are struggling with and we will go over those.
In addition, time permitting, Paul Caldera will be presenting his approach preparing a crew with a pregame conference. If you’ve ever worked with Paul, you know that his pregame discussions are among the best. If you want to eventually white hat at any level, you can benefit from hearing Paul’s discussion.
I am not going to be pestering those of you who haven’t completed the tests or attended the required 5 meetings. We are all adults, you are responsible to make sure you are qualified for playoffs and next season.
Tomorrow is our final regular meeting. The meeting will run just like last week’s meeting. We will all meet in the main auditorium. Runoff ballots will be handed out and collected. Steve Coover is joining us for some great film work and we will be using Kahoot. If you haven’t used Kahoot before, it’s a lot of fun. You can download the Kahoot app from the Apple Store or the Google Play Store or you can just go to https://kahoot.com/ to play.
After the meeting, we will be having an informal pizza party at All Star Pizza 22902 Los Alisos Blvd, Mission Viejo, CA. You will be on your own to purchase food and drink.
Last weeks election results are as follows:
President # of votes
Jeff Roberts 74
Steve Heyman 47
Bob Yoakum 47
There will be a 3-way runoff for President as Bob and Steve tied for second place
Troy Leonard 70
Paul Hebbard 67
Paul and Troy will have a runoff as the two highest vote-getters
At-Large Board Member
Jeff Osborne 108 (elected)
Jim Stickney 89 (elected)
Ray Rangel 77
Bob Yoakum 71
Ray and Bob will have a runoff as the two highest vote-getters not receiving a majority vote
As you can see, we have some tight races. The election on Wednesday will decide all 3 races. Please note, the winner of the race does not have to receive a majority in order to win, they simply must get the most votes.
Steve Coover will be presenting at the meeting, it should be a very fun, informative night, please try to make it if you can.
My job as Instructional Chairman, Webmaster, and HUDL Administrator has frankly become overwhelming. I reached out to Troy Leonard to ask if he could take on the role of HUDL Administrator and he kindly accepted the task. Troy will be submitting exchange requests to the individual schools and processing the exchanged film into our library.
When the game film comes in from a school, Troy will share it with all of you. You are under no obligation to watch the film but it’s there if you want to. If you worked the game that is being shared, I strongly recommend watching the film and reviewing your crew’s performance, even if it was a mixed crew.
This is a big job and I can’t express enough appreciation for Troy’s assistance. I hope all of you appreciate it as well.
