The new CFOA/CIF-approved officials’ shirt is a voluntary action for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. However, for 2024 non-varsity games, officials will wear the “current” uniform shirt. This is being done to make it simpler and more budget-conscious for rookies and first- and second-year officials. For varsity games, the crews have the option of wearing the “current” or “new” uniform shirt. The crew will wear all “current” or “new” shirts. This means the crew is not to have mixed styles of shirts in a varsity game. The White Hat will have the final say on which shirt will be worn on the field on any day or evening game. Then, beginning in 2026, it will be mandatory at all levels of high school football (non-varsity and varsity) that the “new” shirt be worn.
I’d like to point out that this new shirt is NOT to be worn in any football contest that is not CIF-sectioned. We would like to make sure that you are clear about this guideline. You should not wear the official shirt that has the CFOA and CIF patches on it for any non-high school tackle or flag games, or any other non-CIF sectioned games such as junior or kids football. Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for maintaining the integrity and professionalism of our association and that of the CIF.
