2026 Week 6 – Tackle Football Assignor Notes

Assignors Notes

This was sent to all Orange County high school football contacts and tackle football officials from Paul Caldera, Tackle Assignor of the Orange County Football Officials Association.

All
1) October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Players are allowed to wear legal equipment that is PINK. Officials are encouraged to wear PINK gear. The crew is not required to match.
2) We are at a point due to injuries that I will have schools move games off Thursday afternoons. Be aware of changes moving forward.
3) League play has started. Games become more intense. Remember that cooler minds prevail.

Schools
It is important that you notify me ASAP when you are going to cancel or reschedule a game. If you cancel on the week of the game, it’s likely that your school will be considered to move your following week’s game if we are short officials. I will try to limit rescheduling a school to only once for the season if needed.

Officials
1) If officials are running late for an afternoon game, the referee is still responsible for asking the head coach for each team for at least equipment verification and if there are any plays that the crew should be aware of.
2) Please be aware that trying to be funny can be taken as insulting. Be careful and professional in what you say.
3) Please be aware of newer timers. They may not know when to start and stop the clock. Don’t let it just run and blame the timer. When the timing is being done by an official, communicate with both teams of how much is remaining. You put yourselves in a position of being accused of having a running clock when it is not warranted.
4) If you ask administration to remove a spectator that you have identified to be removed, you are to submit an ejection report on cifss.org. If there is an issue with spectators and you ask administration to address it, the school will decide on how to deal with the spectator.

Contact me with any questions.
