This was sent to all Orange County high school football contacts and tackle football officials from Paul Caldera, Tackle Assignor of the Orange County Football Officials Association.
All
– Heat Index is changing most afternoon games this week. Please be understanding. Schools should notify me now. Don’t wait until game day. This way, officials can make accommodations with their real jobs.
– There is no such thing as a “Kicking Ball”. It’s either legal or illegal. Remember the four “Ps”. Paint (white stripes), Pressure (can’t be flat or a balloon), Pebbles (can’t be slick) and Print (NFHS logo on the ball). The ball must have all four.
– The clock does not stop for a “Two Minute Warning” in tackle football. That is a flag football rule.
– We are short officials for Friday, September 11. As of now, we may have to reschedule two varsity games.
Schools
– Date, Time & Location Changes – I need to be notified of ALL CHANGES. There are often last-minute replacements of officials. If I am not notified, you will likely have a “No Show” and still be responsible for one half game fee to the official.
– DOUBLE CHECK WHAT’S ON ARBITER – If your opponents cancelled a game, that DOES NOT mean we are saving the officials for you. We had games last week that had no officials because the school did not notify me of securing new opponents.
– Schools are to have someone appointed to escort officials to and from the locker room and parking lot. It’s unacceptable to allow fans & coaches abuse officials after the game. Officials are to be uninterrupted while using the locker room. Coaches are to stay out and wait until the officials leave.
Officials
– It’s important to accept new game assignments as you receive them. Games are assigned based on your OPEN DATES. Contact me if there is an issue I should be aware of.
– Remember to leave the locker room in the same condition as how it was when you arrived!
– Contact me if you have a problem with a team or other official(s).
– Unpaid Games – Because of new staff in place at some schools, give it another week for games to be paid. Contact me by email if it has been more than two weeks that the game has been played and still no payment.
– Ejection reports must be submitted by the calling official within 24 hours of the event. Let me know as soon as the game is over in case I receive other calls about what happened.
– Be sure to attend the Zoom Video Review meeting tomorrow. Good stuff will be presented!
